This 36 x 24 piece, came from an oil painting trip to Oaxaca Mexico. Some years ago, I had visited this market and came across a beautiful flower stall owned by a very elderly women. She certainly caught my eye and I stopped and asked her if I could take a photograph of her working with her flowers. She responded that she would rather have me shoot pictures of her flowers because she said, “They are much more beautiful than I”. I could not convince her to allow me to photograph her. A few years later, I returned looking for her and found instead, her granddaughter working preparing flowers in the very same place. She told me her grandmother had died at the age of 98 years. This painting will be featured in a group exhibition at the Grapevine Gallery of Fine Art in Oklahoma city, OK June 11-15. The show is in tandem with the Prix de West show at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. This painting will also be included in my new book: Roger Williams Art with the first book signing at the Joe wade Gallery of Fine Art in Santa Fe NM, August 16th 2014.
